Gandhiji requests for his views about the Ashram. Doing of an act, against our reasoning, but because of love, is not necessarily wrong if the act itself is right. Conversely if the act itself is wrong doing it because of love is wrong. Man is good, not for the sake of good but for the love he gives and receives. Love is the agent of moral coercion. Jejus' love is the best example. We obey Him in spite of our inclinations to the contrary and even Singh in his praise. For guidance people rely upon him. Other rely upon parents, wives and friends. All the same it is love that guides us. Fast is only a form of such coercion and is justifiable only if the motive, the end and the act are right. Any violence in act will vitiate the motive and the end. Hence the importanct of Ahimsa. Man can only control Acts- the rest (fruits) should be left to god. |
